Quick answer

Downtown Dahlonega pours Georgia wine in tasting rooms on and just off the Public Square, most representing a Lumpkin County or Georgia vineyard. The area sits in the Dahlonega Plateau, a federally recognized wine region since 2018. Walk between rooms, then drive out to the vineyards themselves. Tasting-room hours vary by season, so check before you go.

The federal Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) established the approximately 133-square-mile Dahlonega Plateau American Viticultural Area in parts of Lumpkin and White counties by a final rule published June 29, 2018. [ttb.gov] According to the AVA petition, the plateau averages about 1,554 feet above sea level. [federalregister.gov]

The visitors bureau counts 12 wine-tasting rooms and eight wineries in Dahlonega-Lumpkin County. [dahlonega.org] The visitors bureau reports that the Georgia State Senate named Dahlonega the "Wine Tasting Room Capital of Georgia" in 2015. [dahlonega.org]
